How to make your phone ring!

Most of the time everyone seems to be frantically busy; lots going on, the phone ringing non-stop and your in-box permanently full with e-mails. Then suddenly …. it all stops and everything goes silent. I am sure you have all experienced this.

What to do? Well the most effective way to change this is not to sit down and analyse and plan but simply to “get on and do”. It really doesn’t matter what, as long as you spend a few days being really busy telling people you are there and what you can do to help them.

So find some networking meetings to go to, email ex-customers to remind them how you can help them, pick up the phone and speak to some current clients and see if they need any additional services / products from you, get involved in some conversations in social media, review and update the copy on your website, send a letter introducing your service to some potential new customers (old fashioned I know but it can still work), post a new blog and dare I say it, maybe pick up the phone and talk to me about local magazine advertising. In other words just get stuck into lots of small scale marketing activities and get things done straight away.

It really does work and before long your phone will be ringing again.

However before you get overwhelmed with “doing” again take a moment to think about why everything went quiet. I am sure the reason will leap out at you – you got so busy “doing” you stopped all your regular marketing activities – because you just didn’t have time.

I know it is a cliché but that is because it is true. For marketing to be effective it needs to be “Regular and Repetitive” – you have to keep reminding your potential customers all the time that you are there and how you can help them. So no matter how busy you get remember you always need to keep marketing your business.
